Frequently Asked Questions

If you have any other questions not covered here please get in touch and someone from our team will happily assist you.

You can book our van as little as on the day if it's available and ready to go. Providing we can clear the insurance and funds before it leaves you will be ready to go.

The pick up time is any time after 3pm. The van must be dropped off by 11am at the latest unless discussed prior and agreed. This gives us time to prepare the van ready for the next hire. If available then it might be possible to arrange an earlier pick up or later drop off for an agreed fee but please ask us prior to see if we can accommodate you.

Most companies only rent to people aged 25 or above.

At Cohen's Campers we understand that being young shouldn't put you at a disadvantage to go on a roadtrip adventure.

Therefore, we have paid the extra insurance to make that possible and can rent the van to everyone aged 21-79 (Excludes Iona and Lismore 23+)

There are some conditions that follow with this in the amount of the Security Excess Deposit needed. The insurance company set this and we have no control over it. You can see how much the Security Excess Deposit is for your age group in our fees section (varies from £500 upwards)

This depends on age and driving experience. Anyone above 21 that has held their licence for 2 years or more is eligible to be on the insurance. 1 driver is included in the hire and you can add additional drivers for £9 per day per driver. This is across the full hire not part hire. However, every driver of the van needs to provide their own ID and proof of addresses and they all need to match the driving license they are going against.
You can pay for the hire by CASH/BANK TRANSFER/PAYMENT THROUGH WEBSITE (fees may apply for card payments 3%) We can hold the security deposit on our website instead of physically taking the funds. If we have to claim any part of the deposit there is 3% fee however this way

This is related to your age and type of vehicle and we are regulated by the insurers. The average fees are as follows;

(OBAN - GLEN )

Drivers aged 25-75 - £500

Drivers aged 21-25 - £1000

Drivers aged 76-79 - £1000

(MELVICH)

Drivers aged 25-75 - £750

Drivers aged 21-25 - £1000

Drivers aged 76-79 - £1000

(IONA - LISMORE)

Drivers aged 23-25 - £1500

Drivers aged 25+ - £1000

THE ABOVE FIGURES ARE BASED ON A CLEAN DRIVING LICENSE - POINTS AND CONVICTIONS CAN INCREASE THE EXCESS IN SOME CASES

This can be made by bank transfer or through the website. (3% charge applicable through the website if any part has to be claimed for damages)

It is fully refundable on return of the van in the same condition as it was when hired with no damage inside or out to bodywork/fixtures/fittings/furniture

(Please note in most cases this is within 48 hrs but it can take up to 14 days)

Yes of course, no problem at all. We have secure high tech motion sensored CCTV that zooms in on any people entering the car park with strobes and sound activation. All the bells and whistles. We can also clamp the vehicle for you for an extra measure for peace of mind.

We may ask to keep the key incase of need to move the vehicle (within the car park)

Under no circumstances will the car leave the premises at any time.

However, we take no liability for the vehicle so it is left at the owners risk.

Yes, of course. We LOVE dogs at Cohen's Campers. However, we do ask that the pet is well behaved and that you please keep them off the furniture especially when muddy etc. Also to stop the furniture being scratched. Pet beds are welcomed and encouraged so they also feel more at home. It does take longer to clean however for the next customers so we charge a £50 hire fee for extra cleaning on the pet hires.

Well, we don't expect it to come back in showroom condition after your travels. But we provide cleaning products etc. We ask that you clean and wipe down all appliances/surfaces/floors etc Dirt/mud/sand etc. Wipe out the fridge freezer and oven etc if used. We would appreciate it if you could clear the rubbish also. There is alot to turnaround and clean in the 3hrs til the next hire so any help is very welcomed. Please treat the van like your home and in saying that we hope you respect it like you would your own. If the van comes back in an (excessively unclean) state then there will be a £40 charge for EXTRA cleaning. Pictures and videos will be taken for your reference. However we don't have to do this often so please look after the van. PLEASE DO NOT USE BLEACH PRODUCTS ANYWHERE IN THE VAN

We would say allow an hour for handover of the van. This gives us time to go over the rental agreement, the operations within the van, any extra questions and to make sure all payments are cleared if not done beforehand. However it can be done quicker. We will provide videos before the hire for you to watch so it minimises your time and gets you away as soon as possible. You can also keep them for reference on your trip.

On return it should be no more than half an hour. We will check the van over visually and check there are no scratches/dents or damage to the wheels or any of the interior/exterior. If the van is dirty outside we will need to check more thoroughly. We will also check that the toilet waste has been disposed of (this incurs a fee if left to us to dispose of your waste)

We will also check that the tank has been returned on full as agreed in the rental agreement. If this needs to be done by ourselves we will take the fuel from the security deposit + the agreed fee. We do ask you please return it on full as it is given with a full tank.

THERE IS A FUEL STATION 1 MILE FROM THE UNIT AND ASK YOU TO FILL THERE IF POSSIBLE. IF YOU FILL BEFORE AND DRIVE TO THE UNIT THERE IS A CHANCE THE FUEL WILL DROP BY THE TIME YOU GET TO THE UNIT AND WE WILL HAVE TO GO AND TOP UP.

We would advise where possible to pre-book campsites as they do get filled quickly in season. The list below is not exhaustive but a few to get you started. Google can help if you need more.

Well the short answer to this question is; Yes you can wildcamp in the majority of Scotland and no you do not need to be in campsite.

HOWEVER THIS DOES NOT MEAN PARK UP ANYWHERE AND DO WHAT YOU PLEASE. PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE OF RESIDENTS AND OTHER PEOPLE. LEAVE NO TRACE AND TAKE ALL RUBBISH WITH YOU.

The campervan is equipped with a 240v hookup for campsite use so you can use full power and your 3 pin plug appliances. Some have inverters so can be used without a campsite. It also has a leisure battery with split charge or DC to DC charger that charges as you drive to power your fridge and all your appliances. You can easily run a few days off just leisure battery.

But wild camping has some unwritten rules....

Leave no trace and take all rubbish with you. This is very important for everyone to do and is expected of every person.

Please respect the locals and everyone else when driving and camping here. If your unsure ask someone.

Loch Lomond and the Trossachs national park has certain zones that you cannot camp in unless you have a permit. Please respect the signs or you will be breaking rules and will be liable for any fines given from police Scotland or National Park Rangers.

When you find a place to camp please try to ensure you are courteous of others.

DO NOT park in passing places on single track roads as you will infuriate not only locals but everyone. They are there to pass not to park.

If you see a space and its not an obstruction to anyone as a general rule you are free to park up but i do reiterate please do follow the golden rule LEAVE NO TRACE.

You will normally receive it back within 48hrs in most cases. We do say allow up to 14 days to cover us but this is very rare. It will be transferred back to your bank account in full unless there are any damages or fees to take off.
Under no circumstances can you smoke inside the van. When stationary or driving with windows open.
  • Full insurance cover inc. breakdown cover

  • Bedding and pillows (some companies charge extra for this) which Cohen's Campers believes is wrong

  • UNLIMITED MILEAGE -  We don't charge extra after a certain amount of miles. FREEDOM!

  • Everything needed for your cooking needs (crockery, cups, cutlery, gas, water etc)

• Fuel - We give you the van with a full tank and require it back with a full tank
• Extras - BBQ/PADDLE BOARD etc
• Extra drivers

Normally this is 3 nights, however it changes depending on time of year. If there is a gap of 3 nights or more during months when minimum rental is more than 3 nights we can fill that gap for you if possible. We do not do 1 night hires at any time of the year

Just inform us as soon as possible. This gives us a chance to order in replacement parts or organise repairs. Things sometimes happen and it's much easier for us to know in advance so we can fix it as soon as you're back.
